I tried to use a Portable Pit on the Celestial Plane to get back down to Elysium, but it failed and I lost the item. The Primal Plane has some pretty dangerous monsters zipping around and an Earth Mother at a portal nexus in the middle. On the Celestial Plane I found a portal to the Primal Plane near the center. I assumed this would return my army to Elysium, but instead it sent me to the Celestial Plane.

When I defeated Asmodeus in his Citadel, it dropped some digging/tunneling/beanstalk items including a Scroll of Heavenly Ascension. I put them all in one big army with about 200 chaff troops and used a scroll to send them all to Inferno. I was playing Druid and used the Call Primal Being ritual to summon all of the callable beings from the Primal Plane, including a bunch of Ents, Beholders and Titans. Tl dr scrolls are an easy way to get to other planes if you can find them. I started the game with a few opponents on Jester difficulty and not a huge map, conquered about 2/3 of Elysium then started playing around with planar travel.
